Pattern adapted from a circa 1890 painting by Herbjørn Gausta, a Norwegian who came to the United States as a child with his family and settled in Minnesota. As an adult, Gausta returned to Europe and studied at the Munich Academy of Art. The pattern was adapted for Nancy Marler, Rolla, MO, who was inspired by a hooked rug adapted from this painting by Sally Hentges, Dubuque, IA, and included in Celebrations XXV magazine.
