This original chenille shirred rug, was created circa 1805. A central weeping willow tree with an urn resting under it marks this as a memorial rug. The willow is flanked by flowers and berries in small pots decorated with floral motifs. The undulating vine border is of berries and leaves. At first glance they seem to be grapes, but the leaves are not grape leaves. The mossy green background is very busy with the hooking direction changed frequently. If your hooking skills don't allow you to do this kind of a background, hook the background with less movement. I love everything about this rug...the colors the motifs and the sentiment.
