This is a photo of the original rug, hooked 1865-1875, that I have adapted.
This was hooked as a tribute to President Abraham Lincoln. His initials and birthdate (A.L. 1809) and the dates he held the presidency (U.S. 1861-1865) are hooked into the rug. He sits in silhouette with his horse which is saddled with a red, white and blue horse blanket. The horse is tied to a hitching post. HIs log cabin is surrounded by flowers. In the bare tree sits an owl. I think it represents his wisdom.
This version, with the flowers, instead of the stone wall, is available on request.
